PSS & PSS MediSpa have a new tool when comes to making their patients look and feel their very best. It’s called BBL, broadband light laser, by Sciton.  The laser can treat acne, sun spots, redness, remove unwanted hair as well as tighten and rejuvenate the skin.

Sciton

As part of Sciton’s JOULE™ platform, BBL allows us to give our clients a range of aesthetic procedures through a single system. The system lets our team customize their own system in a single platform. This in turn allows the Sciton to extend its unique, pinpoint flash lamp technologies, Finesse Adapters, Smart Filters and thermoelectric cooling. Among other improvements, the device is the only one on the market with dual-lamp technology which allows one lamp to work using only half the energy that’s needed for all treatments. This not only saves energy but prolongs the life of the lamps. Because the laser provides such a range of wavelengths, variety of skin conditions can be treated using only one handpiece. The system’s Finesse Adapters allow us to reach places that were hard to reach with earlier handpieces. This results in skin that is even in texture, suppleness and pigmentation.

These features, combined with the excellent results, make Sciton the most comprehensive and versatile of the broadband light systems.

The Difference Between BBL and IPL

BBL is the latest iteration of intense pulsed light, or IPL. Both of them use concentrated visible light to treat conditions such as sun spots, liver spots and acne lesions. Both are used in laser hair removal. They’re non-invasive and therefore more comfortable for the patient than treatments such as the CO2 laser. Patients usually have three or four treatments of IPL or BBL scheduled a few weeks apart for the best results. However, BBL is much more precise and can be customized to meet the needs of the patient.

How the Sciton Laser Works

Sciton BBL Machine

The Sciton BBL works by sending pulses of light energy into a problem area. This light energy heats but does not burn the upper layers of the skin, or epidermis. The light energy is absorbed by the acne lesion or brown spot and destroyed. This returns the skin to its normal, healthy and youthful appearance and texture.

BBL is able to treat many conditions including:

  • Freckles, age and sunspots, melasma and other areas of hyperpigmentation.
  • Rosacea, spider veins and conditions that cause flushing of the tiny capillaries just beneath the skin.
  • Acne.
  • Sagging skin.
  • Unwanted hair.
  • Uneven skin texture.

Doctors, Physician Assistants & Registered Nurses use BBL to treat any area of the body, though the most common sites are the face, neck, shoulders, chest and the backs of the hands.

Treatment Schedule

Sciton Age Spot Treatment

The number of BBL treatments a patient needs varies. Treatment plans depend on the type of skin problem and how much improvement the patient wants. The practitioner may combine the Sciton BBL treatments with other therapies to enhance any improvements given by the BBL. Contact our office to set up a complimentary consultation to determine a treatment plan that is best for you.

The BBL Procedure

During the procedure, the patient is fitted with safety glasses or shields to protect their eyes. As the handpiece is passed over the skin, they may feel a sensation like a rubber band being snapped against the skin. The discomfort should be no worse than this, though you may be given a topical anesthetic to numb an area that’s very sensitive.

Each session lasts from a few minutes to half an hour. The length of time depends on the type of treatment and the size of the area. Our practitioner will discuss options with the patient during consultation.

Recovery from Laser Treatment

There is no downtime with BBL. The patient can reapply their makeup and go about their daily tasks shortly after the session. However, the patient will be given instructions for their aftercare, and it’s important that the instructions be followed. For example, the patient should avoid the sun for a period of days and use a powerful sunscreen if they must go outdoors. A sunscreen with SPF of 30 or even higher is recommended.

Specific Treatment: SkinTyte

This is a skin tightening procedure that uses BBL to heat the deeper layers of skin. This stimulates the body to produce collagen and restore suppleness to skin that’s loose and sagging. The treatment is comfortable because at the same time the deeper layers of skin are being heated, the very top layer of skin is being cooled. SkinTyte usually does not require a topical anesthetic, and the session usually lasts between 30 and 45 minutes.

Most patients need three to five sessions, but an individual patient may need more or less. This can be discussed with the practitioner at the consultation. The patient is free to use other laser or light treatments along with SkinTyte for a maximally good outcome.

Skintight is an excellent treatment for people who want to tighten their skin without resorting to surgery. It’s an outpatient procedure, and there’s no downtime. Indeed, a person can have it done on their lunch hour.

Specific Treatment: Laser Hair Removal

Sciton Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Hair grows in three stages, and when hair is in the anagen stage (growth) it is most vulnerable to light therapy. BBL selectively heats the full length of the hair follicle disabling its growth. Because all hair is not always in the anagen stage at one time, multiple treatments must be given over time. Our practitioners will design a treatment plan to reflect your desire for hair reduction in particular body locations.

BBL hair reduction offers patients a safe, fast, and effective alternative for dealing with unwanted hair. BBL is safe enough to be used on any part of the body (e.g., face, neck, underarms, bikini line, legs, arms).

Patients may experience some localized redness in the area that was treated that should resolve within a few hours. Results depend on your skin condition, the number and consistency of treatments, and the area treated.
